It is the 40th Anniversary of the accident in 2024. Whilst there are currently no plans to hold an event on the scale of the 25th Anniversary (see page under 'The Accident' heading), discussions are currently underway about how to mark this significant date.

Please get in touch using the 'Contact' page if you would like to know more.

On the 19th August 1984 Vickers Varsity WJ897, a former RAF training aircraft maintained and flown by a group of enthusiasts known as the Leicester Aircraft Preservation Group (LAPG), made its last flight.

The aim of this website is to tell the story of the aircraft and the accident which befell it, and to provide a memorial for the aviation enthusiasts who died that day in 1984.
