On the 19th August 1984 Vickers Varsity WJ897, a former RAF training aircraft maintained and flown by a group of enthusiasts known as the Leicester Aircraft Preservation Group (LAPG), made its last flight.

The aim of this website is to tell the story of the aircraft and the accident which befell it, and to provide a memorial for the aviation enthusiasts who died that day in 1984.

March 2025 - The 40th anniversary article 'Absent Friends' has been re-published in the FlyPast Yearbook 2025.

It pays tribute to Bob Somerville, our friend, and, along with Trevor Follows, a crash survivor and driving force behind the 'Varsity Family' reunions, who passed away just a few days after the 40th anniversary gathering at the site in August 2024. Blue skies, Bob.
